Xorg wil not start, nv module fails to load
For a laptop, then it is tough to play some of the older games on Vista because of the video drivers. But with a desktop that isn'ta concern since the video drivers are better. I don't see much of a problem, but remember Vista hasn't been out as long, so there are more "bumps" on the road than with XP.

I think most of the graphics APIs are fully 32bit (for performance reasons) and thus there is some hope :) :) To my recollection, there is a portion of Gpi's implementation that can occur in the video device driver itself (as well as some portion of DIVE). In this case, it is possible to wind up in 16 bit code.

Attention: Proprietary video driver users (ATI, Nvidia, etc.)
Usually there is a way to adjust the display controls for at least one resolution, and using the video driver control panel in windows, a way to optimize the resolution Since the problem occurred with a windows "update" I would suspect that there was a change in the video driver, and this caused your problem.
